The Website Design Process: Creating a Smooth Experience
-Sarah Barkawi, Project Director

Creating a brand new website may feel overwhelming and intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be that way! Here are some tips on how Uptown Studios works with our clients to manage our website design projects to ensure we stay on time, on budget, deliver excellent products and have fun!

•Discover and research: We ask our clients to think about what they want from a new website. We encourage researching other sites and identifying things that inspire them, elements of those sites that they like, and perhaps things they do not like.

•Create a timeline: Timelines are such a critical element of a successful and smooth website design experience. It is so important to set realistic expectations and goals during this process. There are so many different moving parts involved in the build of a website, so identifying the various tasks and assigning due dates to each task helps allow the team to stay on task and on time.

•Content development: Let’s be honest, content is typically the biggest culprit in delaying the launch of a website. We encourage our clients to start thinking about this from the very beginning of the website design process. We ask our clients the following questions: Will you be writing content from scratch? Editing existing content? Or will we be migrating content as is from an existing site? If copywriting is involved, it is important to get this scheduled as soon as possible. Additional content elements include graphics and imagery for the new website. What photos and graphics will you want?

•Project Manage: In order to accomplish your goals, it is imperative to stay on task. As the project manager here at Uptown Studios, I keep a close eye on timelines, budgets and deliverables. Throughout the whole process I provide clients with status updates, ensure we are on track to meet our goals, and work directly with our clients to get content, reviews and approval of each change.

•Think about your brand: A brand new website is an exciting thing and a fantastic way to reinvent yourself, redesign your brand and unveil a new look and feel. Often times it is a great way to show off a new logo. With every new website we design, we ensure it is designed to flawlessly integrate social media. We want you and your brand to shine across all platforms.

•Have fun with it: As with all projects Uptown Studios works on, we always encourage having a good time! Enjoy the fact that you are investing in a new online look for you and your company and generate excitement about the unveiling of your new site launch. Tell your friends, colleagues, clients and family about the upcoming new look and create some hype!
