Project Overview

Heading into winter 2021, the California Department of Public Health needed to push out official guidance regarding flu shots COVID-19 pandemic. Our Video Team created two versions of the same animated video, one in English and one in Spanish.

BACKGROUND

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) works to protect the public’s health in the Golden State and helps shape positive health outcomes for individuals, families, and communities. The Department’s programs and services, implemented in collaboration with local health departments and state, federal, and private partners, touch the lives of every Californian and visitor to the state 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

DISCOVERY

Using CDPH’s official guidance on flu shots, our copywriter first needed to hammer out a basic concept. The video could be entertaining, or it could be educational. Deciding to keep it serious but light-hearted, the script quickly grew into a PSA-style message about the importance of getting your flu shot.

DESIGN

With a script quickly approved, our Video Team got to work sourcing voice-over talent. Since the video would need to be translated into English and Spanish, two voice actors needed to be approved. Voice-over auditions proved fruitful, and audio was sent to the animator in no time, allowing for some extra wiggle room to create two slightly different versions of the same animations. Creating on-screen text in both English and Spanish, the animator used the same animation style as the CDPH Ride Sharing video, taking colors from their established color palette.

RESULTS

  • Two 30-second animated videos in both English and Spanish
