With Our Themed WordPress Websites, We Launched a New Habitat for Humanity Website in Two Weeks Flat

Rather than attempt to fix the existing obsolete website, Uptown was able to offer them a creative solution.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento is part of a global, nonprofit housing organization dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes. Earlier this year they reached out to Uptown with a problem: their current website was broken, sending to error pages, and they were not able to login to the back end. Even worse, it was an important part of the year for them when it came to fundraising and events and it was essential their website was functional. After some initial troubleshooting it was determined their existing theme was obsolete, and it was time for something new.

Objective

Rather than attempt to fix the existing obsolete website, Uptown was able to offer them a creative solution: let’s migrate all of the content onto one of our already developed WordPress themed websites.

With our themed sites we are able to customize them with colors, logos and photography without spending costly time on a brand new design.

Strategy & Approach

After it was determined we’d be creating a new site, we approached content first. It would need to be determined how many pages would need to be moved, and which ones were no longer needed. With a slick spreadsheet and some Google Drive architecture, we quickly set up a streamlined way for them to audit their content. We collected design assets such as logos and a style guide via file sharing programs and sent the project to development.

As they were anxious to get a working site live, we were able to prioritize the project and complete the content migration and have a new development site up for them to review in one week flat. The second week we spent making their requested edits, and QA testing the site. With all hands on deck approach from both the client and our internal team, we were able to get a brand new website live for them in only two weeks.

Implementation

With our themed WordPress websites the first deliverable includes a few options for a themed site. By interacting with the developed site, you’re able to decide which theme is best suited from the organization. After a theme is chosen, a content auditing system is provided via Google Drive folders and spreadsheets.

By keeping content organized, and allowing a simple way to provide assets, we were able to collect the information quickly and efficiently. After the content and assets have been established, the final deliverable is the fully functional website on a development link (meaning it is not yet live) allowing for interaction and edits. After approval, the site goes live on our server.

Conclusion

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento was elated that we were able to get them a new website live quickly and with ease. Though we were not managing and hosting the website before, they are now on our server and under our management ensuring that what happened to their site before does not happen again. While taking your time on a site to ensure every piece of it is thought through, sometimes the need to have something go live and be functional quickly is part of our industry, and we’re happy to make it happen.
