Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever. – Mahatma Gandhi

To stay ahead of your competitors in the design and marketing field requires continuous learning and a motivated staff. As a business owner you can gain competitive advantage through continuous learning.

Keeping your team motivated is a complex challenge. Beyond monetary compensation, there are things you can do that will get results. Continuous learning opportunities and independent creative projects not only build employee value, but also increase creativity and problem solving skills.

The whole crew at Uptown Studios is encouraged to take some time for learning each week to build upon the skills they already have and to learn the latest and greatest new applications, programs and techniques.

Planning time for employee training is the first step. Find some resources that teach what your employees need to learn. We use Lynda.com for some of our training. Tons of topics, platforms and teachers on this site ensure that no time is wasted with inaccurate information and the videos can be accessed time and again until you understand the topic completely.

Just this week I spent time on Lynda.com, learning some new video editing techniques and video camera specs to help me decide what camera was best for an upcoming project. This site is my favorite resource for all things video. AfterEffects, Motion, FinalCut Pro, Cinema 4d and others.

Staying motivated to learn new things is easy when you know you have the time set aside for that purpose.

Empower your employees and keep your business competitive by learning and growing everyday.

I love Sacramento and the team at Uptown Studios. I will often write about video production, marketing, social media and the great community we live in.
