How on earth can a person be in a creative job for over 35 years and still find easy access to creativity with wonderful Sacramento design teams? Hell if I know – but I love everyday I get to go to work!
I think surrounding myself with incredible and creative people keeps me dancing. We have a team at Uptown Studios that really works hard, loves the type of challenges we get faced with every day, and enjoys working as a team. Lucky us! It is a bit of magic when everyone more than gets along and likes each other.
This type of luck comes from knowing what type of culture you have inside your office and hiring to compliment your design teams. Interview and seek out individuals that you can see will fit with your existing team and explore options to make sure you have asked the right questions to get the right person.
Once you have a team of 10 or more it gets even more challenging to get the fit to be awesome. At that point make sure you get feedback and comments from your team as a whole and the people that will be working together so they feel like you are listening to their needs. It is NEVER just to get work done… it is always how the work will get done and how everyone will get along.
During those high stress and deadline-driven times, we try to get enough air between jobs so we are not totally overwhelmed and disconnected from our team. Chocolate works too, so have a stash somewhere in the office.
